Pinellas County, FL

Rental Homes in Oldsmar

Oldsmar sits at the northeast corner of Pinellas County right on the Tampa border, which makes it one of the easiest commutes in our service area for renters working anywhere on Tampa's west side. The city was founded in 1916 by R.E. Olds (yes, the same Olds Motor Vehicle Company) and you can still see that planned-community DNA in the original downtown grid. ZIP 34677 covers the city.

What Oldsmar offers renters is value relative to the rest of north Pinellas. You're paying less per square foot than equivalent homes in Palm Harbor or Safety Harbor, with the same Pinellas County school district, and you're closer to anywhere in the Westshore corridor than Palm Harbor renters are. Tampa Bay Downs (horse racing) is in the southern half of the city, and the Mobbly Bayou waterfront sits along Old Tampa Bay.

Rental inventory is mostly single-family — newer construction in the East Lake-adjacent neighborhoods and along Tampa Road, plus older 1970s-80s subdivisions closer to the original downtown. Townhomes and condos exist but are less common than Clearwater. If you commute to Tampa and want north-Pinellas amenities without the north-Pinellas premium, Oldsmar is usually the best math.

East Lake / Tampa Road

The eastern half toward East Lake and the Hillsborough border. Mostly newer single-family in planned communities, plus a few townhome developments. Easiest commute to Westshore via the Courtney Campbell.

Old downtown

The original 1916 R.E. Olds grid centered on Park Boulevard. Smaller older single-family on grid streets, walking distance to R.E. Olds Park and the waterfront. More character, less inventory.

Mobbly Bayou waterfront

Southern Oldsmar along Old Tampa Bay. Mix of waterfront single-family, canal homes with boat access, and a smaller condo presence. Premium pricing for direct water access.

Common questions about renting in Oldsmar

How much is rent in Oldsmar?

Typically $200-400/month less than equivalent homes in Palm Harbor. 2-bedroom around $1,900-2,400, 3-bedroom $2,300-3,000, larger or waterfront homes price higher. Call (727) 943-9500 for current listings.

How's the commute to Tampa?

Best in our service area. Courtney Campbell drops you into Westshore in 15-20 minutes off-peak, 25-30 in rush hour. To downtown Tampa add 15. Tampa International is about 20 minutes door-to-airport.

What's the school district?

Pinellas County Schools. East Lake High and Countryside High serve different parts of Oldsmar; Oldsmar Elementary and Forest Lakes Elementary cover most of the city. Zones vary by neighborhood — we confirm before signing.

Are pets allowed?

Most of our Oldsmar rentals welcome dogs and cats with a deposit. A few HOA communities have breed or weight restrictions; each listing notes the current policy.

Is Oldsmar walkable?

Not really, outside the small original downtown around R.E. Olds Park. Most of the city is car-oriented suburbia, which is part of why the value is better than walkable Dunedin or Safety Harbor.
